Iran Makes Significant Strides in AI Research Rankings, Reports Official
Iran has improved its global ranking in Artificial Intelligence (AI) scientific production from 33rd to 30th, as reported by the Nature Index. Official Hossein Afshin highlighted the country’s focus on quality, with regional rankings fluctuating between 14th and 17th. Iran’s AI infrastructure development includes an AI platform aimed at enhancing public services. The Oxford Insights AI Readiness Index also noted Iran’s progress, moving up to 91st globally. While Iran excelled in the Data & Infrastructure pillar, it scored lower in the Government pillar. Overall, Iran’s commitment to AI research and readiness suggests a promising future for technological advancement.
Iran Takes on Leadership Role as Vice-Chair at Ramsar Convention on Wetlands
Iran has been elected Vice-Chair for the 15th Conference of the Parties (COP15) to the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, taking place from July 23-31 in Zimbabwe under the theme “Protecting Wetlands for our Common Future.” COP15 aims to adopt a strategic plan for 2025-2034. Three Iranian cities—Babol, Kiashahr, and Gandoman—received wetland city accreditation certificates for their commitment to conservation. The Ramsar Convention, active since 1975, now includes 173 members, promoting the wise use of wetlands. Recognizing urban wetlands is essential for enhancing public awareness and sustainable management, offering economic and environmental benefits.
Over 80 Iranian Universities Shine in THE WUR 2025 Rankings by Subject!
The 2025 Times Higher Education World University Rankings highlights the strong performance of Iranian universities, with 81 institutions recognized, up from 73 in 2024. The rankings cover ten academic areas, excluding Law, and assess universities through 18 performance indicators across five core pillars: Teaching, Research Environment, Research Quality, Industry, and International Outlook. Iranian universities excelled particularly in Computer Science and Engineering. The University of Tehran and Sharif University of Technology ranked highly in various disciplines. Additionally, 29 Iranian universities were acknowledged in the Interdisciplinary Science Rankings, and 32 in the QS Asia University Rankings, reflecting the country’s advancing educational landscape.
