Mashhad Welcomes 4,000 Pilgrims on Foot for Heartfelt Hazrat Fatemeh Mourning Ceremony
On Sunday, over 2,500 pilgrims walked into Mashhad to commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of Hazrat Fatemeh Zahra (SA), the beloved daughter of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). This annual event attracts a significant number of worshippers, and local authorities anticipate that the total number of pilgrims arriving on foot could reach 4,000.
According to Hossein Rezaei, the spokesman for the Society Serving Imam Reza (AS) Pilgrims Traveling on Foot, a total of 2,565 pilgrims entered Mashhad by noon on Sunday. Among them, approximately 800 were foreign pilgrims who journeyed from the cities of Najaf and Karbala. These pilgrims traveled in various groups and are expected to stay at the Rabat Khakestari caravanserai, located about 17 kilometers south of Mashhad.
Fortunately, there have been no reported incidents or significant issues for the caravans on their journey, and the movement of pilgrims continues in a safe and orderly manner.
As the martyrdom night of Hazrat Fatemeh Zahra (SA) approaches, it is expected that the flow of pilgrims will persist from the old Quchan and Fariman roads, with the overall number anticipated to reach 4,000 by nightfall.
Origin of the Pilgrims
Rezaei highlighted that the majority of the pilgrims hail from cities within the Khorasan Razavi province. He mentioned:
- “Most of the caravans are coming from various cities in Khorasan Razavi.”
- “We also see pilgrims from eastern cities such as Birjand, Nehbandan, and Qaen.”
- “Caravans are also joining from Neyshabur and surrounding areas.”
With the continuous influx of pilgrims, more groups are expected to join from the old Quchan road in the coming days.
Services Available for Pilgrims
To support the pilgrims on their journey, a range of services has been organized. Rezaei mentioned that there are:
- 25 food, beverage, and accommodation stations active along the routes to Mashhad and Khorasan Razavi province.
- These stations will be fully operational upon the announcement of the caravans’ arrival times.
- Pilgrims on foot will have access to various services, including:
- Accommodation and overnight rest.
- Bathing facilities.
- Votive meals including breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks.
Additionally, medical services are available at these stations. Two ambulances are stationed along the route to transport any pilgrims to medical centers should the need arise.
As the number of pilgrims continues to grow, the local community, along with various organizations, is dedicated to ensuring that all attendees have a safe and fulfilling experience during this sacred time.
For those planning to participate in this spiritual journey, it is essential to prepare adequately. Joining a caravan not only provides a sense of community but also ensures access to necessary services along the way.
As we observe the arrival of thousands of pilgrims in Mashhad, the sense of devotion and unity among them is palpable. The upcoming days promise to be filled with prayers, remembrance, and a deep connection to the teachings and legacy of Hazrat Fatemeh Zahra (SA).
This pilgrimage not only honors the memory of a significant figure in Islam but also reinforces the bonds of faith among those who travel to the holy city in reverence and respect.
