TEHRAN – The vibrant tourism event titled “Mazandaran, the Green Gateway of Iran” has commenced, attracting tourism professionals and social media influencers from various countries including Russia, Kazakhstan, and Turkmenistan. This initiative aims to showcase the rich tourism potential of Mazandaran province and expand its reach in international markets.

According to Mohammad-Ebrahim Toulaei, the deputy governor-general for economic affairs and tourism, the event includes a familiarization tour designed to introduce the unique attractions of Mazandaran to a global audience. This effort is part of a broader strategy to enhance “tourism diplomacy” in northern Iran.

“This program is aimed at presenting the province’s tourism capacity at a transnational level and within the framework of developing northern tourism diplomacy,” ISNA quoted Toulaei as saying on Sunday.

Toulaei emphasized that Mazandaran’s strategic location along the southern coast of the Caspian Sea and its cultural connections with CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) countries make it an ideal hub for regional tourism collaboration.

Further elaborating on the event, Toulaei mentioned that the “Mazandaran Week” is structured to blend cultural, economic, and media activities, showcasing a vibrant and realistic depiction of the province. He stated, “It highlights rich nature, an active economy, and authentic cultural heritage.”

The six-day familiarization tour will encompass visits to various tourism sites across eastern, central, and western Mazandaran, along with specialized meetings focused on discussing joint tourism routes. This initiative serves as a platform for fostering cultural and economic cooperation among participating nations.

Toulaei remarked, “The presence of Russian tourism managers and Kazakh influencers (and Turkmen counterparts) in Mazandaran introduces a new form of tourism diplomacy that can lead to lasting cooperation in health tourism, ecotourism, and green economy.”

In a recent accolade, the ancient village of Kandelous in Mazandaran province was recognized as one of the world’s 52 best tourism villages for 2025. This recognition highlights Kandelous’s rich cultural heritage, historical significance, and commitment to sustainable tourism practices. Nestled in the lush slopes of the Alborz Mountains, Kandelous stands as one of the oldest rural settlements in northern Iran, renowned for its traditional stone houses, handicrafts, and scenic hiking trails that wind through the ancient Hyrcanian forests.
