Iranian Students Shine Bright: Gold Medal Victors at ISIF 2025!

Iranian students have once again demonstrated their remarkable talent and innovation by securing three gold medals along with a special award at the prestigious International Science and Invention Fair (ISIF) 2025. This event, organized by the Indonesian Young Scientist Association (IYSA), took place in Bali from November 12 to 15, showcasing the ingenuity of young minds from around the world.

The ISIF 2025 attracted a total of 800 teams from 24 countries, including powerhouses like China, the United States, and South Korea. The competition featured diverse fields such as biotechnology, educational technology, artificial intelligence, mathematics, engineering, chemistry, and nanotechnology, providing a platform for students to present their innovative solutions to real-world challenges.

• Raman Nafarieh won a gold medal and a special award in the field of biotechnology.
• A team comprising Radin Abbasi and Sam Rashidi clinched a gold medal in engineering.
• Matin Hayati achieved gold in both educational technology and artificial intelligence.

Last year, at ISIF 2024, Iranian students excelled as well, securing five gold medals and two special awards, further highlighting their continuous commitment to innovation and excellence.

Recent Achievements in International Competitions

Iranian students have consistently showcased their prowess on international platforms, securing accolades in various prestigious competitions. Notably, they participated in the Yakutia International Science Fair (YISF) and the World Invention Creativity Olympics (WICO).

Yakutia International Science Fair (YISF)

The YISF was held in Yakutsk, Russia, from July 6 to 9 and featured 129 teams from 10 countries competing in two categories. These categories included:

1. Mathematics, Computer Science, and Information Technology
2. Physics, Astronomy, and Engineering

In the second category, Mehran Rajabi and Alireza Jafarnejad took first place with their innovative project titled ‘EcoNet Bin: AI-Driven Waste Segregation with IoT-Enabled’.

Other notable achievements included:

• Moeid Rajabi and Helena Rajabi securing second place for their project ‘Protecting Curious Little Minds: A Smart Child Safety Solution with IoT and Image Processing’.
• A group consisting of Artin Radmatin, Baran Bahman, Mohammad-Hossein Ezzati, Niki Abtahi, Sarina Nosrati, and Baran Derakhshandeh won third place with their project ‘Evaluation of the effect of using magnetic gear in improving the performance of process systems based on mechanical gear’.
• Zhina Aminorroaya-Karladani received a special prize for her project ‘UVGuard Grooming Brush’.

In the first category, Artin Salari and Amir-Abbas Kavosi Amin placed second with their project ‘Smart Glasses for the Blind with Real-Time Object Detection’, while Ilia Majidzadeh Heravi and Parsa Karimi Yazdi finished third for their project ‘CommuniMate SmartApp: An Innovative Solution for Deaf Communication’.

World Invention Creativity Olympics (WICO)

The 14th WICO took place from July 17 to 19 at Seoul National University of Education in South Korea. This year’s event brought together 313 teams from 28 countries, fostering collaboration and innovation in science and technology.

Highlights from the WICO included:

• Radin Abbasi and Sam Rashidi winning a gold medal for developing a humanoid robot called NannyBot, designed to manage children’s activities using the Internet of Things.
• Matin Hayati earned a silver medal for his project ‘Automatic Analysis and Display of EEG Signals for Seizure Prediction Using Frequency Band Analysis’.
• Raman Nafarieh received a silver medal for his research titled ‘Studying the Effect of Plant Nanogels on Skin Cancer Cells’.

Additionally, a team of four high school students from Iran achieved two silver medals and two bronze medals at the International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI), which was held in Beijing, China, from August 2 to 9. The winners included:

• Arash Yousefnejad and Ali Shayan claimed silver medals.
• Parsa Golestani and Radin Rahmani-Nodehi took home bronze medals.

Furthermore, Iranian students excelled at the 8th International Economics Olympiad (IEO) 2025, held in Baku, Azerbaijan, securing two silver medals and two bronze medals among 68 participating countries.

In a remarkable showing of their scientific talent, four Iranian students achieved three gold medals and a silver medal at the 36th International Biology Olympiad (IBO 2025), which took place from July 19 to 27 in Quezon City, Philippines. Iran’s performance advanced them to a commendable second place among 81 countries, improving from third in 2024.

Additionally, at the 55th International Physics Olympiad, five Iranian students secured silver medals, ranking 11th globally, showcasing the nation’s commitment to fostering scientific talent and innovation.

These achievements not only highlight the capabilities of Iranian students but also underscore the importance of nurturing creativity and scientific inquiry among the youth.
