In a recent interview, Vitaly Naumkin, the research director of the Institute of Oriental Studies at the Russian Academy of Sciences, shared his insights on the potential consequences of a war against Iran. He emphasized that such a decision would be profoundly unwise and lacks justifiable reasons.
Naumkin highlighted that “Threats of war against Iran are currently quite intense, coming from across the ocean, as well as from Israel, some European powers, and the collective West,” during his conversation with TASS. This statement comes just ahead of the 14th Middle East Conference organized by the Valdai Discussion Club.
Further elaborating on Iran’s capabilities, he stated, “Iran does not possess nuclear weapons and has no intention of acquiring them.” This assertion aims to clarify misconceptions regarding Iran’s military intentions.
Naumkin continued, “Regardless, it is a large and formidable nation, and going to war with it would be madness,” stressing the significant risks involved in any military action against Iran. He also noted that “There is a strong sentiment in America favoring the use of force against Iran, but perhaps (President Donald) Trump will choose a different approach. Only time will tell.”
