42nd TISFF Showcases Outstanding Achievements in Global Short Film Excellence

Welcome to the 42nd Tehran International Short Film Festival (TISFF), a premier event showcasing the best in short films from around the globe. The festival, which commenced on Sunday in Tehran, features four engaging non-competitive side programs designed to highlight significant achievements in international short cinema while also reflecting on the rich heritage of Iranian short films.

The following programs are scheduled for this year’s festival:

One of the standout programs, “Seekers: A Quest for Place in Contemporary Turkish Cinema,” delves into the theme of humanity’s search for belonging. This segment features poignant films that explore intimate family struggles and broader societal quests:

  • Good Morning Mom and Southwest highlight personal battles for love and connection.
  • The School Bus and The Moisture depict individual struggles against indifference.
  • Garan portrays a quest for future opportunities in border regions.
  • Bishwa Ijtema reflects themes of survival and global justice.

These screenings will take place every evening at the Iran Mall Cinema Complex, located in the eastern part of Tehran. Curators and guest filmmakers will be present for Q&A sessions following the films, providing audiences with deeper insights.

In the program titled “China’s Emerging Short Cinema,” a carefully curated selection of new Chinese short films has been drawn from over 3,600 submissions. This program highlights:

  • A focus on exceptional fiction works that showcase China’s rich regional, cultural, and linguistic diversity.
  • Emerging talents recognized for their creativity at international film festivals.

Another exciting addition to the festival is “A Selection of Film7days,” which features films created during an intensive seven-day camp in Kazan. Here, ten teams collaborate under expert mentorship, ensuring that selected projects are polished and ready for global festival circuits.

This program offers a glimpse into diverse landscapes, cultures, and characters from various countries, showcasing the best films crafted during this time-limited competition.

Additionally, “Pioneers: Iranian Echoes from Tampere” presents a selection of six award-winning Iranian short films that have previously gained acclaim at the Tampere Film Festival in Finland. This program serves as a tribute to:

  • The enduring recognition of Iranian films on the global stage.

The Tehran International Short Film Festival is celebrated as one of Asia’s leading platforms for short films.
