Israel Launches 10 Airstrikes in Southern Lebanon, Disrupts Critical Power Infrastructure

Israeli warplanes conducted a series of intense airstrikes along Musaylih Road in southern Lebanon on October 11, causing widespread disruption and darkness in the region. The airstrikes targeted key infrastructure, leading to significant damage and casualties, as reported by the Cradle.

According to sources, at least 10 airstrikes struck six excavation and bulldozer depots, resulting in the destruction of over 300 engineering vehicles and heavy machinery. This onslaught tragically left one person dead and seven others wounded.

Lebanon’s primary electricity provider, Electricité du Liban (EDL), reported severe damage to the national grid due to these airstrikes. A critical 66 kV tower was completely destroyed, leading to the disruption of the Zahrani-Musaylih line and affecting power supply to major substations in Sidon and Siblin.

The airstrikes also severed the main 220 kV Zahrani–Tyre transmission line, necessitating the shutdown of several substations across southern Lebanon, including those in Tyre and Wadi Jilou. This has raised concerns about the overall stability of the electrical supply in the region.

In response to the attacks, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri condemned the Israeli actions, labeling them a “blatant act of aggression in both form and substance.” He expressed that the Israeli aggression would not sway the convictions or steadfastness of the Lebanese people, who continue to pay dearly for their rights and dignity.

Berri further stated, “The Israeli aggression, in its timing, location, and objectives, will not change our convictions or the steadfastness of our people, who once again pay with their lives, homes, and livelihoods for holding onto their land and their legitimate right to a dignified life.” He emphasized that this attack reflects the “inherently aggressive nature of the Israeli entity.”

He added, “As always, this is not merely an assault on Msayleh, its residents, or its industrial facilities – it is an attack on Lebanon and all its people. It targeted Christians and Muslims alike; blood has mixed with blood. Let us unite from there, for Lebanon, in the face of this aggression.”

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun also condemned the overnight strikes, categorizing them as “blatant Israeli aggression against civilian facilities.” He pointed out that the assault occurred “after the agreement to cease hostilities in Gaza, and after the Palestinian side’s approval of the terms of this agreement.”

Aoun added that the attack “raises fundamental challenges for us as Lebanese and for the international community.” This has sparked debates about the implications of such military actions on regional stability.

Reports from Lebanese news outlets indicate that the airstrikes particularly targeted a heavy machinery yard, resulting in the death of a Syrian citizen and injuries to six Lebanese and another Syrian individual when a passing vehicle carrying vegetables was struck.

In defense of its actions, the Israeli military claimed that the airstrikes targeted a site allegedly used to store machinery for Hezbollah’s reconstruction efforts. This assertion highlights the ongoing tensions and the complex geopolitical landscape in the region.

The recent escalation of violence raises critical questions about the future of Lebanon and its people. With both political leaders and citizens expressing outrage, the situation remains tense as Lebanon grapples with the aftermath of these airstrikes.

As the international community observes the developments, the call for unity among Lebanese citizens grows stronger. The airstrikes not only inflicted physical damage but also intensified the emotional and psychological toll on the population.

In light of these events, it is essential for global leaders to address the ongoing conflicts and work towards a peaceful resolution that respects the rights and dignity of all individuals involved. The actions taken by Israel have resonated deeply, prompting widespread condemnation and highlighting the urgent need for dialogue and diplomacy in the region.

In conclusion, the situation in southern Lebanon following the recent Israeli airstrikes serves as a stark reminder of the volatile conditions in the Middle East. With the infrastructure heavily impacted and casualties reported, the focus now shifts to recovery and response efforts, as well as the international community’s role in fostering peace and stability.

  • Silenced Voices: Israel’s Targeting of Lebanese Women Ignored by Women’s Rights Organizations

In South Lebanon, Lebanese women face severe violence from Israeli missile strikes, yet women’s rights organizations remain disturbingly silent. This silence raises questions about their commitment, as the targeting of women reflects a deliberate strategy in the broader context of military aggression. Since a ceasefire last November, 21 women have died, highlighting the ongoing plight of those who nurture generations of resistance. The lack of response from feminist groups, which typically advocate for women’s rights, reveals hypocrisy, as their outrage appears selective based on the aggressor’s identity. True advocacy requires genuine support for women under occupation, not empty rhetoric.
