Ex-British Soldier Sentenced to 14 Years for Spying for Iran: A Shocking Betrayal

In a significant legal development, a British court has handed down a sentence of 14 years and three months to a former army soldier for his involvement in espionage activities on behalf of Iran. This case highlights serious national security concerns regarding the infiltration of military information.

Daniel Khalife, now 23, enlisted in the Army at the tender age of 17. Prior to the court’s ruling, Justice Cheema-Grubb revealed critical details about Khalife’s actions:

  • He initiated contact with Iranian agents during his service.
  • His Iranian heritage was used strategically to appear trustworthy to his handlers.
  • Khalife disclosed sensitive information, including the identities of British Special Forces, putting military personnel at significant risk.

The judge expressed concern over the severity of Khalife’s actions, emphasizing the potential harm posed to military personnel due to his disclosures. In response to the verdict, the Metropolitan Police stated that it “reflects the gravity of the offenses committed by Khalife.”

Notably, Khalife made headlines earlier in September 2023 when he escaped from Wandsworth Prison, only to be recaptured three days later. In November, he was found guilty of multiple charges, including breaching the Official Secrets Act and the Terrorism Act, which further underscores the seriousness of his offenses.
