As the Iranian government prioritizes self-sufficiency in medical production, Health Minister Mohammad-Reza Zafarqandi emphasized the importance of domestic manufacturing in ensuring healthcare quality. He stated, “We are striving to achieve self-sufficiency in the supply of medicine and medical equipment,” according to IRNA.

In recent statements, Abdolreza Yaqoubzadeh, the head of Iran’s Union of Medical Equipment Manufacturers and Exporters, revealed that the country exports approximately $20 million worth of medical equipment to over 60 countries annually. He noted that:

  • More than 70 percent of medical equipment is manufactured domestically.
  • Iran produces 100 percent of its standard hospital beds.
  • Over 95 percent of ICU and CCU beds are locally produced.
  • More than 85 percent of operating room equipment, including anesthesia machines, are manufactured using advanced technology.

Yaqoubzadeh also mentioned that Iran’s annual demand for medical equipment production stands at approximately $3 to $4 billion, with around $1 billion of that figure covered through imports. Currently, about 600 medical equipment companies operate within the country, producing nearly 99 percent of the medication supplied to the domestic market.

The medical equipment sector in Iran is robust, with manufacturers supplying over 10,000 types of medical devices to both domestic and international markets. Notably, various laboratory equipment items are now being produced locally at prices significantly lower than their foreign counterparts, enhancing accessibility for healthcare providers.

The UZMEDEXPO 2025 is more than just an exhibition; it represents a significant step towards achieving greater self-sufficiency in Iran’s healthcare sector, showcasing the country’s commitment to quality healthcare through innovation and local production.

As the event approaches, industry stakeholders are keenly anticipating the potential partnerships and advancements that will arise from this gathering of professionals dedicated to enhancing healthcare services around the world.
