Outrage Over Journalist Killings: Silence Deemed ‘Unconscionable’

In a recent interview with Mehr News Agency, CNN Turk correspondent Fulya Ozturk voiced grave concerns over the ongoing violence in Gaza, particularly the deliberate targeting of journalists and civilians by the Israeli regime. Her remarks highlight the alarming situation in the region and the urgent need for global awareness and action.

Ozturk stated, “The Zionist regime targeted our colleagues again by attacking Nasser Hospital. Israel’s attacks against journalists and civilians are completely deliberate.” This alarming assertion underscores the dangers faced by media personnel in conflict zones.

Significantly, Ozturk noted the shift in global sentiment following the events of October 7. “After October 7, all the people of the world united against Israel,” she remarked. “The people of European countries such as Italy, France, and Austria, and even the United States, which we did not even expect, have now become defenders of the rights of the people of Gaza.” This shift indicates a growing global solidarity with the plight of Gazans.

In her interview, Ozturk emphasized the role of journalists in standing against the atrocities committed in Gaza. “We journalists must also stand against the barbarism and killing of this regime,” she added, highlighting the responsibility of the media to report truthfully and fearlessly in the face of oppression.

Ozturk expressed her belief that accountability would eventually be sought for the actions of Israel and its leaders. “I believe that Israel and Binyamin Netanyahu will be tried, because we are witnessing critical conditions in the occupied territories as well,” she stated. She pointed out the serious gaps in the Israeli military, noting that soldiers are reluctant to serve due to the ongoing protests and social unrest within Israel. “Continuous protests are going on inside, and this social crisis will deepen,” she warned.

Furthermore, she asserted that Israel’s attempts to silence the truth through violence would ultimately fail. “Israel cannot suppress the voice of truth by massacring journalists. They cannot prevent the reality of Gaza from being reflected,” Ozturk said. She criticized Israel’s claims of fighting anti-Semitism, arguing that their actions have only exacerbated the issue globally. “As a result of the massacres they have committed, anti-Semitism has increased worldwide,” she explained.

Ozturk also addressed the isolation of Israel in the international community. “No matter which country the Zionists go to, they always face negative reactions from the people of that country, and these reactions are increasing,” she noted. She expressed deep sorrow for the loss of life in Gaza, stating, “Our colleagues, our babies and children are being killed in Gaza. We don’t even know the exact number of those killed; thousands of people hope that this genocide will end. I believe that Israel will be tried by justice.”

Emphasizing the importance of solidarity among journalists, Ozturk called for continued advocacy for media personnel in Gaza. “Let’s continue to raise our voices and protest. Yes, we are heartbroken and helpless, but remaining silent in the face of the deaths of people and journalists in Gaza is the greatest lack of conscience. Let’s not be silent and continue to stand against this genocide,” she urged.

She further expressed concern over the failure of some Islamic nations to unite on the Gaza issue. “Since October 7th, many tragic events have occurred and continue to occur. The policy of some Islamic countries on the Gaza issue has failed. Despite such a large Islamic geography, unfortunately, we have not been able to unite,” Ozturk lamented.

Ozturk highlighted the significance of unity among Muslim nations in supporting the Palestinian cause. “There are very valuable people in Gaza. Turkey and Iran have also always tried to be with these people and have continued to be the voice of the Palestinian people. But this is not enough,” she said, calling for a collective effort. “Supporting Palestine requires the unity of all Muslim countries. But as I said, the policy of some Islamic countries has failed.”

In conclusion, Ozturk’s poignant statements reflect the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the need for a unified global response to advocate for the rights of the Palestinian people. Her call to action serves as a reminder that the voices of journalists must not be silenced in the face of oppression and violence.
