Iranians Dominate FIRA RoboWorld Cup and IESO 2025, Showcasing Robotics Excellence!

In a remarkable display of talent and innovation, the Iranian robotics and earth science teams have achieved outstanding success at recent international competitions, showcasing their skills on a global stage. The Federation of International RoboSports Association (FIRA) and the International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO) provided platforms for these teams to shine, with Iran’s robotics team achieving an impressive haul of awards and recognition.

The FIRA 2025 World Robotics and AI Competition, held from August 11 to 15 in Daegu, South Korea, saw the Iranian robotics team secure a total of 11 prestigious awards. In addition, the Iranian participants at the IESO, which took place in Ji’ning, China, earned four bronze medals.

Highlights from the FIRA RoboWorld Cup and Summit 2025

The FIRA RoboWorld Cup and Summit celebrated its 30th anniversary this year, featuring over 900 robots from 17 countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Canada, and Brazil. The competition consisted of 46 events across four leagues:

  • Sports League: Focused on autonomous bipedal robots.
  • Challenge League: Emphasizing autonomous vehicles and start-up competitions.
  • Air League: Featuring indoor disaster rescue operations using drones.
  • Youth League: A creative task designed for younger participants.

The Iranian delegations excelled in multiple categories:

  • Won five championships in the Air League and Sports League (for students under 19).
  • Secured four runner-up positions and two third places in various events, including autonomous vehicles and youth creative tasks.

On August 14, a significant summit event brought together 250 robot researchers and students from around the world to discuss advancements in robotics and AI, as well as international technical standards.

Achievements at the International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO)

Co-hosted by the Ji’ning Confucius School and Shandong University of Science and Technology, the IESO took place from August 7 to 17. The Iranian team, comprising Bardia Khalili, Parisa Sedqi, Fatemeh Hedayat Kakhaki, and Zahra Goudarzipour, showcased their skills in this global educational event.

The IESO aims to enhance geoscience education and increase student interest in Earth Sciences. This prestigious competition has been held annually since its inception in 2007 and attracts over 100 students from more than 30 countries each year. In 2025, a total of 210 students and teachers from 31 nations participated, engaging in theoretical and practical examinations as well as fieldwork.

In previous years, the Iranian team has also made notable achievements, winning a silver medal and two bronze medals at the IESO held in Beijing, China, in 2024.

In addition to success in robotics and earth sciences, Iranian students have excelled in various international competitions:

  • At the 37th International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) in Sucre, Bolivia, Iranian students secured a gold medal, two silver medals, and a bronze medal.
  • During the Eighth International Economics Olympiad (IEO) in Baku, Azerbaijan, Iran won two silver medals and two bronze medals.
  • At the 36th International Biology Olympiad (IBO) in Quezon City, Philippines, Iranian students clinched three gold medals and one silver, ranking second among 81 countries.
  • In the 55th International Physics Olympiad held in Paris, Iranian students earned five silver medals, placing 11th globally.
  • During the 66th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) in Australia, Iran secured two gold medals, three silver medals, and one bronze medal.

These impressive results highlight the dedication and skill of Iranian students across various scientific disciplines.
