Global Outcry Erupts Over Israeli Strikes on Journalists in Gaza
In the ongoing conflict in Gaza, the humanitarian crisis has escalated, particularly following the tragic killing of journalists. The Israeli military operations persist, resulting in severe civilian casualties and widespread condemnation from the international community. The situation remains dire as reports indicate a staggering number of casualties and hunger-related deaths among the Palestinian population.
According to a recent report from the Palestinian Health Ministry, approximately 90 Palestinians were killed and over 500 injured due to Israeli attacks in just the past 24 hours. The data reveals a grim reality:

Patricia Esami-Lubba, a Nigerian journalist and diplomatic correspondent, expressed her dismay to the Tehran Times, stating, “As a journalist committed to truth, accountability, and the ethical duty to bear witness, I view the killing of the journalists in Gaza as a tragic and unacceptable assault on press freedom and the public’s right…This underscores the urgent need for all parties in conflict to respect the protections guaranteed to media workers under international law.”
In a similar vein, Xu Yawen, a CGTN Radio reporter and international affairs commentator, labeled the killings as a “blatant attack on press freedom and a grave violation of international humanitarian law.” She emphasized that Israel’s claims connecting journalists to Hamas lack credible evidence and align with a disturbing trend of targeting media personnel to suppress critical information regarding military operations.
The United Nations reports that at least 242 Palestinian journalists have lost their lives in Gaza since the conflict began 22 months ago. Xu noted that Israel’s blatant disregard for international law continues unabated, often supported politically by the United States. “The international community must unite and act decisively to hold Israel responsible and end this cycle of violence,” she remarked.
Xu further emphasized the importance of media coverage in the region, stating, “The voices of Palestinian journalists must not be silenced. The global media and public must continue to spotlight the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Only by upholding the two-state solution and advancing political resolutions can this endless bloodshed and conflict be brought to an end.”
Attacks specifically targeting journalists represent clear violations of international humanitarian law and constitute serious breaches of press freedom. These acts infringe upon the public’s fundamental right to access information during armed conflict. Under the Geneva Conventions, such actions may amount to war crimes, necessitating immediate, impartial investigations and accountability for the perpetrators.
