Tragic Loss: Army Remembers Six Brave Soldiers Killed in South Lebanon

The Lebanese Army Command has announced a tragic incident resulting in the martyrdom of six soldiers during field operations in the Majdal Zoun-Wadi Zebqin area of the Tyre district. This unfortunate event underscores the ongoing challenges faced by the Lebanese military as they work tirelessly to maintain national security and sovereignty.

The soldiers who lost their lives were identified as:

  • First class Abbas Fawzi Salhab
  • Conscript Ahmed Fadi Fadel
  • Conscript Ibrahim Khalil Mustafa
  • Conscript Hadi Nasser Al-Bay
  • Conscript Mohammad Ali Shaqir
  • Conscript Yamen Al-Hallaq

According to the Army Command, “while an army unit was inspecting a weapons depot and dismantling its contents in Wadi Zebqin, Tyre, an explosion occurred inside, resulting in the martyrdom of six soldiers and the injury of others.” The army is actively investigating the details surrounding this incident to ascertain the cause of the explosion.

In response to this tragic event, President Joseph Aoun reached out to Army Commander General Rodolphe Heikal to discuss the circumstances of the incident. Aoun expressed his profound sorrow over the loss of the soldiers, offering his condolences to their families and the army. He also wished for a swift recovery for those injured in the explosion.

Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri also extended his heartfelt condolences, stating, “I reiterate the destiny of this national institution, which unites the hopes and aspirations of the Lebanese, to preserve unity, security, and stability through sacrifice and devotion.” Berri emphasized the need for solidarity during this painful time, asserting, “We stand with the army and by its side to enable it to fulfill its national duties.”

MP Ali Ammar, a member of the Hezbollah parliamentary bloc, echoed these sentiments, offering condolences to the families of the martyrs who “watered the land of the South with their pure blood.” He emphasized the unity between the resistance and the army, stating, “It is the destiny of our people to sacrifice their most precious ones in defense of the homeland.”

Ammar further noted that the Lebanese Army serves as “a safety valve for the nation through the sacrifices of its heroic soldiers,” asserting its pivotal role in defending against external threats. He remarked, “Your affliction is our affliction, and we will remain together in one trench in defense of Lebanon’s freedom, sovereignty, and independence.”

In light of the ongoing challenges, the Lebanese Army Command has issued a warning against “uncalculated actions.” They emphasized the importance of maintaining security and civil peace, stating that they will not tolerate any breaches or disruptions. “In light of the exceptional challenges facing Lebanon, particularly the continued Israeli aggression, it is crucial for citizens to act responsibly,” the Army Command stressed.

The Army Command’s statement also addressed calls for protests and the spread of misinformation on social media, warning that such actions could endanger national security. They affirmed their respect for “freedom of peaceful expression,” but reiterated that they will not allow any actions that could disrupt civil peace or threaten public safety.

Meanwhile, the Lebanese Ministry of National Defense has clarified recent statements regarding coordination with Israel concerning weapons possession. They emphasized that the remarks made by Major General Michel Menassa were misinterpreted, stating, “what he meant was coordination to begin implementing the mechanism in cooperation with the Supervisory Committee for the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement.”

The Public Relations and Media Department of the Ministry confirmed that any claims of coordination with the Israeli enemy are unfounded, declaring that “the talk about Lebanon receiving instructions from the Israeli enemy is a deliberate distortion of facts.” They reiterated that the coordination mentioned pertains solely to cooperation between Lebanon and the member states of the five-member committee overseeing the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement.

In summary, the recent explosion in Wadi Zebqin has brought to light the sacrifices made by the Lebanese Army in its ongoing mission to safeguard the nation. The loss of these brave soldiers is a solemn reminder of the challenges that lie ahead, and the need for national unity in the face of adversity.

As Lebanon navigates these difficult times, it becomes increasingly important for citizens to come together in solidarity, support their armed forces, and work collectively toward a peaceful future.
