Taherian-Muqaddam emphasized that this distinctive design not only enhances the visual appeal of the tower but also establishes its unique identity. Inside, visitors will find an octagonal space, showcasing the remarkable precision and craftsmanship of the architects from that era.

  • Kufic Inscription: An inscription in Kufic script, located on the upper part of the columns, is a remnant from the Ilkhanid period, demonstrating the artistic taste of that time.

Taherian-Muqaddam highlighted that the tower holds significant historical importance, as it is attributed to the renowned astronomer and scientist Hakim Khajeh Nasir al-Din Toosi. This structure was designed to aid in timekeeping, allowing users to determine the time across the four seasons, including leap years and the onset of Nowruz. “Given that this tower is a valuable historical monument, its protection and maintenance are of great importance.”

He announced the commencement of the second phase of construction around the historical monument, which includes:

  • Selection of a contractor
  • Allocation of six billion rials for the project

Previously, the first phase of the precinct’s construction involved enhancing and restoring its brickwork decorations, which was funded with one billion rials. The second phase, approved by the Khorasan Province’s Technical Council, began in August and aims to:

  • Improve the infrastructure of this historical attraction
  • Increase accessibility and comfort for visitors

Taherian-Muqaddam expressed that these initiatives are vital for preserving the cultural and historical values of the Radkan Tower. He noted:

“Paying attention to this tower and other historical monuments in the region not only helps preserve our history and culture but can also serve as a model for future generations.”

Furthermore, he underscored the importance of preserving municipal properties to generate income and promote sustainable development in Chenaran county. The Radkan Historical Tower, also referred to as Radkan Citadel, is a prominent landmark with a history dating back to the Ilkhanid era (1256–1353 CE).
