Similarly, Witkoff indicated on Thursday that the U.S. was scaling back its involvement in the ceasefire negotiations, accusing Hamas of showing “a lack of desire to reach a ceasefire.”

Al-Rishq countered these assertions by emphasizing that the American statements are “inconsistent with the actual progress of negotiations that had been acknowledged by mediators, particularly Qatar and Egypt.” He noted that these mediators have expressed satisfaction with Hamas’s serious and constructive stance throughout the process.

In his statement, Al-Rishq urged the U.S. to cease absolving the Israeli regime of its responsibilities and to stop providing “political/military cover for its genocide and starvation against over two million Gazans.” He called for the U.S. to exert real pressure on Israel to engage sincerely in ending the aggression and to facilitate a prisoner exchange deal.

Despite ongoing indirect negotiations in Qatar, which have been characterized by their complexity, no formal agreement has been reached yet. While Tel Aviv has accused Hamas of stalling the negotiation process, Hamas argues that it is Israel that has obstructed progress by dismissing key conditions required for a sustainable truce.
