In a remarkable showcase of talent and intellect, five Iranian students have clinched silver medals at the 55th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO), positioning Iran 11th in the global rankings. This esteemed competition took place from July 18 to 24 in Paris, gathering 440 participants from over 90 countries, highlighting the significance of this achievement.

The Iranian students who proudly represented their nation are:

According to IRIB, the primary objective of the IPhO is to rigorously assess candidates’ knowledge, analytical capabilities, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills in both theoretical and experimental physics. The competition consists of two intensive five-hour tests:

  1. Experimental Test: This test utilizes equipment provided to the candidates, allowing them to demonstrate their practical skills.
  2. Theoretical Test: This portion focuses on modeling and understanding physical phenomena.

It is noteworthy that the 54th edition of the IPhO was successfully hosted by Isfahan University of Technology in Iran, where Iranian students achieved an impressive performance, securing one gold and four silver medals.

In addition to their success in physics, Iranian students have also excelled in mathematics, recently achieving:

  • Three silver medals
  • One bronze medal

These accomplishments were recorded at the 66th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO 2025), held from July 10-20 in Australia. The event, organized by the Australian Maths Trust, attracted over 600 high school students from 112 countries.

The IMO represents the pinnacle of mathematical competition, showcasing years of dedication and countless hours spent solving complex problems. The Iranian gold medalists include:

  • One gold medal by Bardia Khosh-Eqbal
  • Silver medals by Mehdi Aqajanloo, Parsa Tajallaei, Mohammad-Reza Attaranzadeh, and Mohammad-Sajad Memari
  • One bronze medal by Amir-Hossein Zarei

This three-week program focused on enhancing students’ problem-solving skills in various mathematical disciplines, including algebra, geometry, and combinatorics, aiming to foster a deep passion for mathematics.

Participation in the IMO 2024

In the previous year, during the 65th IMO held from July 11 to 22, 2024, in Bath, United Kingdom, the Iranian team scored 137 points, securing the 19th place among 108 countries and 609 participants. This competitive environment further emphasizes the importance of international exposure for these budding mathematicians.

Success at the Turkmenistan Olympiad

At the second International Mathematics Olympiad for high school students in Turkmenistan, Iranian students garnered seven bronze medals, showcasing their consistent performance in this field. The event took place from April 21 to 26, gathering over 230 talented students from 15 countries.

Thirty-one students from North Khorasan represented Iran, with notable bronze medalists including:

In another remarkable feat, Iranian students won two silver and two bronze medals at the Turkic International Mathematics Olympiad (TIMO), held from April 17 to 22 in Antalya, Turkey. This event is open to students from grades 3 to 12, further enhancing the competitive spirit among young mathematicians.

The TIMO competition included two rounds: a preliminary round with over 27,350 students participating online and an offline global round featuring 1,500 selected participants. The Iranian students who excelled in this competition included:

  • Parnian Heydarian and Anusha Abdi (Silver Medalists)
  • Fatemeh Mazini and Ava Dejagah (Bronze Medalists)
