The critically endangered Asiatic cheetah is receiving significant conservation efforts from Iran’s Department of Environment (DOE). Key initiatives include relocating domestic animals from cheetah habitats, improving road safety on the Tehran-Mashhad route, and establishing captive breeding programs. DOE representative Hamid Zohrabi noted that over 150,000 hectares have been cleared of domestic animals. Safety measures aim to reduce cheetah fatalities, while advanced monitoring tools and community involvement are being explored. The DOE’s goal is to boost the wild cheetah population to at least 50 individuals, supported by a new comprehensive document on cheetah growth and maintenance.
An Iranian delegation will participate in the 4th International Telecommunications and Information Technology Exhibition and Conference (ITEX) in Baghdad from September 25 to 28. Supported by the Vice-Presidency for Science and Knowledge-Based Economy, this event will showcase Iranian knowledge-based firms in the ICT sector. Recent discussions between Iranian and Iraqi officials have focused on strengthening technological ties, particularly in areas like artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and digital infrastructure. The 39th Executive Committee Meeting of the Regional Organization for the Protection of the Marine Environment (ROPME) emphasized Iran’s initiatives for marine environmental protection. Key proposals approved included establishing joint maritime research patrols, enhancing technical capacity through expert exchanges, and creating a regional training center for marine experts. Discussions also focused on pollution, climate change, and biodiversity preservation in the Persian Gulf. Despite a proposal on sand and dust storms not being approved, it will be integrated into climate change talks. The meeting underscored the importance of collaboration among member states for sustainable marine practices and ecosystem health.
