UNICEF, in partnership with the Special Education Organization, is implementing a vital initiative in Iran to assist children with disabilities from low-income families. Currently operational in nine provinces, the program benefits 1,554 children with approximately 50 million Rials ($44) in financial support for medical care and educational resources. Plans to expand assistance to an additional 2,564 children were announced on October 5. The initiative includes teacher training, provision of therapeutic equipment, and mobility aids. Additionally, UNICEF is enhancing emergency preparedness through earthquake drills and educational materials, ensuring a safer, more inclusive environment for children with disabilities.
The Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) has dispatched over 100 tons of essential supplies to assist victims of a recent earthquake in Afghanistan’s Nangarhar Province, which measured over 6.0 in magnitude. The shipment includes clothing, rice, beans, blankets, and canned food, with about half sent by air and the rest overland. The quake, which struck on August 31, has resulted in approximately 2,205 deaths, 3,640 injuries, and the destruction of 6,700 homes. Iranian officials, including Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, have expressed condolences and readiness to provide further humanitarian aid and medical support as the situation evolves.

Shina Ansari, head of Iran’s Department of Environment, is representing Iran at the 11th BRICS Environment Working Group (EWG) meetings in Brazil, focusing on “Advancing Environmental Cooperation.” Established in 2015, the EWG aims to address key environmental challenges among BRICS nations through dialogue and best practices. The group prioritizes air quality, water resources, biodiversity, climate change, and waste management under a Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2018. The 2023–2027 Plan of Implementation aims to enhance cooperation. Ansari’s visit also included exploring local environmental projects, highlighting the role of indigenous communities in sustainability. The EWG’s efforts underline the importance of international collaboration for sustainable development.
