The 2025 Times Higher Education World University Rankings highlights the strong performance of Iranian universities, with 81 institutions recognized, up from 73 in 2024. The rankings cover ten academic areas, excluding Law, and assess universities through 18 performance indicators across five core pillars: Teaching, Research Environment, Research Quality, Industry, and International Outlook. Iranian universities excelled particularly in Computer Science and Engineering. The University of Tehran and Sharif University of Technology ranked highly in various disciplines. Additionally, 29 Iranian universities were acknowledged in the Interdisciplinary Science Rankings, and 32 in the QS Asia University Rankings, reflecting the country’s advancing educational landscape.
Free Pneumococcal and Rotavirus Vaccinations for Infants Offered by Health Ministry!
Iran has launched a significant public health initiative, providing free pneumococcal and rotavirus vaccinations for children at all medical centers nationwide. Deputy Health Minister Alireza Raeisi announced this program, which aims to prevent severe illnesses caused by these infections. The rotavirus vaccine is expected to prevent over 50,000 hospitalizations and 10,000 severe diarrhea cases annually, while the pneumococcal vaccine could avert 1,500 deaths and over 10,000 hospital admissions each year. The program, which includes domestic vaccine development, represents a major advancement in child health, with strong government support for immunization efforts.
China and UNAIDS Join Forces to Enhance Iran’s Rapid HIV Response Efforts
Iran’s Health Ministry, in partnership with the China International Center for Economic and Technical Exchanges and UNAIDS, hosted a two-day meeting in Tehran to strengthen the country’s national AIDS program and improve HIV testing. Over 30 experts from Iran, China, and UNAIDS discussed enhancing domestic manufacturing of HIV rapid diagnostics, crucial for addressing Iran’s testing gap. This collaboration aligns with Iran’s National AIDS Control Program and China’s Global Development Initiative, aiming for 95% of people with HIV to know their status by 2025. Additionally, Iran launched a national HIV testing campaign to increase awareness and promote early diagnosis.
Iranian Schoolchildren Shine at International Mathematics Olympiad: A Triumph in Education
At the second International Mathematics Olympiad in Turkmenistan, Iranian students excelled, winning seven bronze medals among over 230 participants from 15 countries. The event, held from April 21 to 26, promoted international scientific collaboration. Thirty-one Iranian students represented their country, with medalists including Mohammad-Javad Kamali Kalati and Mahsa Abron. Additionally, Iranian students earned two silver and two bronze medals at the Turkic International Mathematics Olympiad, ranking fourth overall. In robotics, students from the Iran University of Science and Technology achieved first place at the FIRA Open competition, while also securing five gold medals at the International Science and Invention Fair.
