Since the new year on March 20, Iran has witnessed over 700 road fatalities, with 704 deaths reported from March 14 to March 31 alone. The head of Iran’s Traffic Police, Brigadier General Teymour Hosseini, noted that over 16,000 injuries occurred during this period, coinciding with approximately 400 million vehicle movements during the Nowruz holiday. Major causes of accidents include driver distraction and sudden lane changes. Experts advocate for improving road infrastructure, enhancing vehicle safety standards, and implementing stricter driving regulations to combat this escalating public safety crisis. Urgent action is needed to address both environmental and behavioral factors contributing to road accidents.
