Iran Strengthens Eastern Borders with New Security Measures, Says Top General

In a recent announcement, Major General Mohammad Baqeri, the Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, revealed that Iran is taking significant measures to enhance border security by actively constructing a wall along its eastern borders. This initiative aims to fortify the region and address security concerns.

During a visit to Sistan-and-Baluchestan Province, Major General Baqeri inspected the armed forces stationed in the border area and assessed the progress of the ongoing border fortification efforts. He emphasized the importance of this region, stating:

“Numerous military units affiliated with the Army, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), and the Police Command are stationed in this province, as it remains a priority for the Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces.”

Furthermore, on Saturday, General Sadegh Nouri, the deputy commander of the Northeast Regional Headquarters of the Army’s Ground Forces, shared updates on the construction of the border wall between Iran and Afghanistan. Key points from his statement include:

  • The border wall project has reached 81 kilometers in Razavi Khorasan Province.
  • The construction involves the installation of prefabricated concrete walls.
  • The first phase of the project has been completed, totaling 120 kilometers.
  • More than 22 kilometers of concrete walls have been constructed so far.
  • Contracts have been signed with 16 companies to speed up the construction process.
  • The entire wall project is planned to stretch 953 kilometers, with over 300 kilometers currently under construction in the first phase.

According to General Nouri, the implementation of the border wall project has led to a significant decrease in the unauthorized entry of Afghan migrants into Iran. This development highlights the effectiveness of the security measures being put in place.

As Iran continues to enhance its border security through these construction efforts, the focus remains on maintaining stability and safety in the region.
