Vice President Declares Persian Gulf a Unifying Symbol for Iranians
The Persian Gulf is not just a body of water; it symbolizes Iran’s dignity, sovereignty, and rich civilizational heritage. Recently, First Vice President Mohammad-Reza Aref highlighted the significance of the Persian Gulf in a statement shared on his Instagram page.
Aref emphasized that the name “Persian Gulf” is deeply embedded in Iran’s political, social, economic, and cultural history, representing much more than a mere geographical term. He stated:
“According to historical evidence, ancient documents, maps, and scholarly records unanimously recognize the Persian Gulf as a body of water that has, for thousands of years, been inseparable from Iran’s identity and civilizational heritage.”
He pointed out that Iranians, despite their differences, stand united in defending this historical truth. Aref urged international leaders to:
- Respect historical and legal realities
- Recognize the importance of the Persian Gulf to Iranian identity
Earlier, Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi condemned politically motivated attempts to misname the Persian Gulf. He remarked that such actions reflect a hostile intent toward Iran and its people.
