Iran Proposes Cooperation with Britain on Arrested Nationals, Conditional on Establishing Misconduct

Iran Denies Allegations of Involvement in Alleged Plot Against Israeli Embassy in London

In a recent statement, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi firmly denied any connection to a supposed plot targeting the Israeli embassy in London, underscoring Iran’s commitment to diplomatic integrity amidst rising tensions.

On his official X account, Araqchi expressed his concerns about media reports alleging Iranian involvement. He stated:

“We are seeing stories in the media that Iranian nationals are allegedly involved in a supposed plot to target the Israeli embassy in London.”

Araqchi further emphasized:

“Iran in no uncertain terms categorically rejects any involvement in such actions and confirms that we have not been informed of any allegations via proper diplomatic channels.”

The Foreign Minister elaborated on Iran’s willingness to cooperate:

“Iran has urged the UK to engage so that we may assist any probe into credible allegations. Timing and lack of engagement suggest that something is amiss.”

He also noted the historical context:

“There is a history of third parties bent on derailing diplomacy and provoking escalation, resorting to desperate measures, including false flag operations.”

Araqchi reiterated Iran’s readiness to clarify the situation:

“Iran stands ready to engage to shed light on what has truly transpired, and we reiterate that UK authorities should afford our citizens due process.”

Earlier this week, British police announced the arrest of eight individuals, including seven Iranian nationals, on suspicion of terrorism offences. This development has raised concerns, particularly as it coincides with ongoing negotiations between Iran and the United States. Analysts in Iranian media suggest that these arrests may serve as a provocation intended to disrupt the diplomatic talks, which Israel reportedly opposes.

In response to the situation, the Iranian embassy in Britain released a statement on its official X account, noting:

“Iranian Ambassador to Britain Ali Mousavi met with Britain’s Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Hamish Falconer, for an introductory meeting on 7 May 2025.”

The embassy highlighted the nature of their discussions:

  • Respectful and candid exchanges on bilateral, regional, and international issues.
  • Focus on ongoing Iran-US negotiations.

Additionally, the embassy stated:

“Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to the principles of international law, including non-interference in domestic affairs, and expressed mutual respect for each other’s sovereignty and security.”

Regarding the recent arrests, the Ambassador emphasized the importance of:

“Respect for their rights and due process—assurances Minister Falconer provided.”

Finally, both officials agreed that:

“Dialogue and diplomacy remain the most constructive path to addressing challenges and differences.”

As tensions continue, the call for constructive dialogue remains crucial in navigating the complex landscape of international relations.
