According to a report from The New York Times, Musk was alleged to have communicated with Iran’s ambassador to the UN, Amir Saeid Iravani, to facilitate Sala’s return. Italy’s Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani, also weighed in on the matter, stating unequivocally that Musk had no involvement in the negotiations for Sala’s release. “Musk … has nothing to do with Cecilia Sala’s case. He played no role. The case was settled by the Italian government,” Tajani informed broadcaster SkyTG24 on Friday.
