Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Celebrates Journalists Exposing Israeli Actions in Gaza

On World Press Freedom Day, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei paid tribute to the courageous journalists who have relentlessly documented the suffering of the Palestinian people and the atrocities committed by the Israeli regime over the past two years.

Baqaei took to his X account on Saturday night, stating that this day serves as a reminder of the immense bravery exhibited by journalists, photographers, and videographers. These individuals have risked their lives to unveil the harsh realities of the Gaza war and the brutal genocide faced by Palestinians.

“Today, we pay tribute to more than 200 media personnel who documented the indescribable suffering of the Palestinians, and the atrocities, occupation, and genocidal policies of the Israeli regime,” he emphasized.

He further noted, “Many of them fell victim to this genocidal campaign because they sought to expose it.” Baqaei also highlighted that the United States and other supporters of the Israeli regime’s actions are complicit in these heinous atrocities and must be held accountable.

The significance of this day dates back to December 1993 when the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) declared May 3 as World Press Freedom Day. This event serves to raise awareness about the importance of press freedom and the role of journalism in society.

  • Tribute to Journalists: Baqaei honors over 200 media personnel.
  • Risking Lives: Journalists face danger to reveal the truth.
  • Accountability: Calls for accountability from U.S. and allies.
  • Historical Context: Established by UNGA in December 1993.

As we reflect on World Press Freedom Day, it’s crucial to acknowledge the vital role that journalists play in uncovering the truth and advocating for those who are suffering.
