Iran Vows Unyielding Commitment to Combat Terrorism with Strong and Decisive Actions

In a recent meeting, Nasser Seraj, the Deputy for International Affairs of Iran’s Judiciary and Secretary of Iran’s High Council for Human Rights, underscored the crucial need for a robust and decisive fight against terrorism and related activities. This dialogue took place with prominent Iraqi judicial officials in Baghdad, emphasizing the importance of international cooperation in legal matters.

During his visit, Seraj and his judicial delegation engaged in meaningful discussions with senior Iraqi officials to tackle pressing legal and judicial issues. Here are some key highlights from the meeting:

  • High Public Turnout: Seraj noted the significant public participation in the Arbaeen pilgrimage and called for solutions to the judicial challenges that pilgrims face when traveling to Iraq.
  • Judicial Support: He emphasized the necessity of providing maximum judicial support to resolve issues affecting these travelers.
  • Joint Legal Cases: The discussions included a review of various joint legal cases and the importance of expediting the transfer of convicts and extraditing criminals, particularly those linked to terrorist organizations.
  • Prosecution of Terrorists: The meeting addressed the prosecution of individuals connected to the Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK) and those involved in the 1991 uprisings in Iraq.
  • Cooperation Commitment: Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening legal and judicial cooperation, especially through the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) established between them.
  • Counterterrorism Efforts: The agenda also included discussions on intensifying counterterrorism initiatives, particularly concerning the assassination of Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani and his associates.

Furthermore, both parties agreed on the need to pursue legal actions against various terrorist groups, including the MEK, ISIS, and Takfiri groups such as Komalah, Democrat, PJAK, Khabat, and PAK. This multifaceted approach aims to enhance regional security and foster judicial collaboration between Iran and Iraq.
