I.A.E.A. Focuses on Technical Solutions, Not Political Issues, Says Foreign Ministry Spokesperson

In recent developments regarding the Iranian nuclear program, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baqaei, emphasized that Iran anticipates the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to operate within its technical framework. This statement comes alongside the announcement of an upcoming visit from the IAEA’s technical delegation to Iran.

Baqaei shared insights during his weekly press briefing on Monday, stating, “The visit is a continuation of the talks that took place last week between Iranian officials and the Agency.” He noted that the delegation will engage in technical discussions with Iranian experts, particularly concerning the issue of safeguards.

Upcoming Indirect Talks Between Iran and the U.S.

In response to inquiries about negotiations with the United States, Baqaei confirmed that the next round of talks is scheduled for Saturday, “based on the understanding and announcement of the Omani host.” He clarified that details regarding the timing and location will be confirmed in coordination with Iran, the U.S., and Oman.

Addressing the slowdown in negotiations, Baqaei described it as a typical occurrence, explaining that technical discussions are often time-consuming. He also referred to a social media post by Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Albusaidi concerning the next indirect talks, suggesting it may have been misinterpreted, and clarifying that it pertains to the fourth round of discussions, which will be led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and U.S. Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff.

Baqaei reiterated Iran’s position on its peaceful nuclear program and the sanctions imposed on the nation. He emphasized, “Enrichment and the effective lifting of sanctions are red lines in the negotiations with the United States.”

The spokesperson pointed out that any negotiation details must adhere to the general framework agreed upon by all parties involved. He stated, “The mentioned red lines are part of Iran’s negotiating principles, and the issues surrounding them will definitely be pursued seriously.”

Baqaei also addressed the threats from the Israeli regime, warning that any military adventurism against Iran would be met with a decisive response. He noted, “The Zionist regime’s officials are trying to make such statements with two goals: to overshadow the genocide taking place in occupied Palestine and to destroy any diplomatic process in the region.”

He further asserted that Israeli officials are acutely aware of the repercussions of aggressive actions against the Islamic Republic, urging Western nations to reconsider their support for Israel, which poses a threat to international peace and security.

Concerns Over Detained Iranian Citizens in France

In a strong condemnation, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson responded to the arrest of two Iranian citizens in France and their denial of consular access. He described their arbitrary detention and lack of consular visits as violations of human rights and freedom of expression.

Baqaei stated, “Iran has followed up on both cases, and a consular visit was agreed upon with the two citizens,” insisting that Tehran expects clarity from the French government on this matter. He emphasized that the Iranian citizens had not committed any crimes but merely expressed their humane sentiments against the war in Gaza.
