The 5 Film & Photo Awards is not just a competition; it’s a celebration of cultural diversity and artistic innovation. The festival aims to support artists from around the globe, particularly independent and modern creators, fostering connections between different cultures.
Inspired by a remarkable 500-year-old tree in Aro village, near Tehran, this festival carries a rich history. Renowned director and photographer Abbas Kiarostami has documented this tree through various seasons, showcasing its beauty in exhibitions at prestigious venues like the Center Pompidou in Paris and the Museum of Contemporary Art in New York. Six years ago, documentary photographer Mehdi Shadizadeh honored this tree by founding the festival, highlighting its significance as a cultural symbol and a tribute to Kiarostami’s artistic legacy.
The name “5” draws inspiration from Kiarostami’s film “5,” released in 2003, which consists of five scenes, each averaging 16 minutes in duration. This connection underlines the festival’s commitment to celebrating cinematic and photographic storytelling, resonating deeply with both artists and audiences.
The upcoming 5 Film & Photo Awards aims to elevate the global photography scene, enabling photographers to showcase their talents and share their unique perspectives. With an outstanding jury and a rich cultural backdrop, the festival promises to be an unforgettable event for participants and attendees alike.
