Iran and Kazakhstan’s Chief Justices Advocate for Stronger Judicial Collaboration

In a significant meeting focused on judicial collaboration, Judiciary Chief Qolam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei of Iran and his Kazakh counterpart, Aslambek Mergaliev, emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation between Tehran and Astana. This dialogue took place during the 20th Meeting of Chief Justices of the Supreme Courts of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Member States in Hangzhou, China, on Tuesday.

During their discussions, Mohseni-Ejei highlighted several key points:

  • The need for implementing judicial agreements previously signed by Iran and Kazakhstan that are yet to be enforced.
  • The effectiveness of last year’s visit by high-ranking Kazakh officials to Tehran, which significantly bolstered bilateral relations.

Mergaliev, on his part, reiterated Kazakhstan’s commitment to fostering closer ties with all neighboring countries, particularly the Islamic Republic of Iran. He stated:

“The maximum cooperation and interaction and strengthening relations with Iran in all sectors, especially in the judicial field, to overcome existing challenges, are on Kazakhstan’s agenda.”

Furthermore, the chairman of the Supreme Court of Kazakhstan expressed enthusiasm for Iran hosting the upcoming SCO judicial summit next year, indicating a strong interest in attending the meeting in 2026.

In addition to judicial matters, Mohseni-Ejei and Mergaliev also addressed challenges faced by investors from both nations and explored potential solutions to these issues.

This meeting underscores the ongoing efforts to enhance judicial cooperation and strengthen relations between Iran and Kazakhstan, reflecting a mutual desire to overcome challenges and foster economic growth.
