Judiciary Chief Lands in China: Strengthening Legal Ties and Collaboration

Judiciary Chief Qolam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei’s recent visit to China marks a significant event in the realm of international judicial cooperation. He is attending the 20th summit of the chairs of supreme courts from the nine member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

Mohseni-Ejei, leading a high-ranking judicial delegation, arrived in the vibrant city of Hangzhou on Monday. His participation at this summit is crucial, as he is scheduled to:

  • Deliver speeches at both the opening and closing ceremonies.
  • Conduct bilateral meetings with counterparts from other SCO member states.

The agenda for this year’s summit focuses on strategic and operational solutions aimed at enhancing legal and judicial coordination among member countries. The SCO, which comprises approximately 42% of the world’s population, aims to:

  • Develop joint initiatives across various sectors, including economic, political, security, and defense.
  • Launch a multilateral legal and judicial program.

This program will address critical issues such as:

  1. Combating terrorism
  2. Fighting organized crime
  3. Addressing drug trafficking
  4. Preventing human trafficking
  5. Tackling cybercrime

Through these efforts, the SCO seeks to implement joint mechanisms that will strengthen legal frameworks and enhance cooperation among its member states.
