Leading Knowledge-Based Companies Showcase Innovations at UzMetalMashExpo

In a remarkable showcase of innovation and growth, Iranian knowledge-based companies participated in the 16th edition of the International UzMetalMashExpo from April 2 to 4 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Supported by the Innovation and Prosperity Fund, twelve Iranian enterprises highlighted their achievements in metallurgy, machinery, and metal technologies, marking a significant presence at this prestigious international exhibition.

UzMetalMashExpo serves as a vital platform for industry professionals, focusing on metallurgy, metal processing, machine tool construction, and welding technologies. This annual event enables participants to display their innovations, forge valuable business connections, and explore opportunities within the Central Asian market.

Notable Growth in Knowledge-Based Companies

The rapid growth of Iranian knowledge-based companies is noteworthy, with a staggering increase of over 200 percent in their numbers from March 2023 to March 2024. This surge reflects the strong foundation, dynamism, and progressive environment cultivated to enhance domestic production through public participation.

The current administration emphasizes both the quantitative and qualitative development of knowledge-based companies. Since the administration took office in August 2021, the number of these companies has doubled from approximately 5,000 to around 10,000, with a total market value reaching $2 billion.

With continuous support and investment, the future of these companies looks promising. The significant presence of knowledge-based companies in the capital market demonstrates their maturity, with 108 companies currently active. This number is expected to double by the end of the current year, March 2025.

Export and Import Statistics

According to the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA), Iranian knowledge-based companies exported over 3.6 million tons of products valued at $2.506 billion during the previous Iranian calendar year (ending March 19, 2024). This impressive export performance underscores their critical role in the national economy.

In the same period, knowledge-based companies imported approximately 1.158 million tons of goods worth $5.141 billion from March 21, 2023, to March 19, 2024. The import data reveals that around 85 percent of these goods originated from key trading partners such as:

• United Arab Emirates (UAE)
• Turkey
• Germany
• India

On the export front, Iranian knowledge-based companies successfully delivered their products to various nations, including:

• China
• Iraq
• UAE
• Turkey
• Russia

Overall, these companies accounted for 2.6 percent of the country’s total exports by weight and 5 percent by value during the reported period. Notably, advanced materials and products based on chemical technologies represented about 80 percent of the export value from these companies.

During this time, China emerged as the leading buyer of Iranian knowledge-based products, highlighting the significance of this trading relationship.
